Friedrich Liechtenstein was born in Stalinstadt in Germany (once again now known as Eisenhüttenstadt). It was there that his involvement with the theatre began: ``I was a puppeteer and a sort of one-man theatre. I did a lot of farewell parties. Farewell parties at cafeterias and canteens, farewells of all kinds as a kind of performance theatre. One such performance was called easy looking, a theatrical counterpart to easy-listening music. That´s when I hit on the idea to make my own songs. Then I got a job performing on the first saturday of every month at the NBI Theatre in Berlin. That´s where I met Hanno Leichtmann (ich schwitze nie / paloma / static) and Nicholas Bussman (ich schwitze nie), as well as producer Arnold Kasar (atomhockey / micatone)."
Liechtenstein studied violin and performed in an orchestra. His plays were later filled with music, although, up to then, music had only been one part of his biography. ``From the very beginning I found electronic music good and exciting because it was stunningly electrifying and much more sophisticated than the usual boom, boom, boom. It also left me alone and it did not entertain me like a band which plays music which consistently builds itself up. But after awhile, Ik found I did not like it because it did not entertain me and because I didn´t know if they threw together a cd or if they had been working on their laptops. That´s why I asked the guys to perform a little which actually worked pretty well.
``For me it is grand that I have achieved such a transformation. Ii am now 45 and my kids are 20 and they like what I´m doing now. I play pop music and it works. It is really beautifully enriching because, in contrast, performing in the theatre is so analytical and heavy with meaning. Pop music gives me a feeling which is both fast and direct. Even someone who does not need to know the meaning of everything can hear it and have a good time. I´m an escapist. Those are people who want to flee reality for refuge in an artificial world. i dream of being a great entertainer with a big stage, beautiful and big, glittery go-go girls, and where I can live like a dolphin: happy and satisfied but with a killer potential.´´
